Southern Cross Care Tasmania Group (Southern Cross Care (Tas) Inc. and Mary’s Grange Inc.) is a not-for-profit organisation. It is Tasmania’s leading aged care provider and one of the State’s largest employers with over 1,300 full and part time employees.

Chief Financial Officer

Jara started at Southern Cross Care in January 2021 as Southern Cross Care Tasmania’s Financial Controller. Jara has over 15 years of experience in financial management and reporting, governance, legislative compliance, and risk management. He began his professional career in Tasmania after graduating from the University of Southern Queensland. Prior to that, he studied and worked in accounting and business administration, both in Australian and overseas. Most recently, Jara held the role of Audit Director at Deloitte, providing audit and advisory services to clients across Australia and Tasmania.
Jara holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a member of CPA Australia and the Charted Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Jara's personal and career objectives have always been to be part of an organisation that desires to be the best, is dedicated to building a strong team of capable professionals and cares about making a difference to its customers and its people.

Kristy Brown

Chief People Officer

Kristy has over 20 years’ experience in managing, leading and inspiring high performing multidisciplinary teams, and a proven ability to engage, empower and motivate others to achieve positive business outcomes. With outstanding leadership abilities, business qualifications and a deep understanding of HR best practice, Kristy has led the successful redesign and delivery of services across several large and dynamic organisations in Tasmania. As a proud Tasmanian, and graduate of the Tasmanian Leaders Program, Kristy is passionate about the work we do at Southern Cross Care in caring for and meeting the needs of people in our Tasmanian community.

Jolene Perry

Executive Manager Care Services

Jo’s true passion is ensuring residents and clients in our care are respected, supported and receive high quality care that is tailored to meet individual physical, emotional and psychological needs. Jo commenced her career nearly 20 years’ ago in rural NSW, prior to coming to Southern Cross Care in March 2020. Jo was drawn to Southern Cross Care for their mission, vision and values.Jo is enthusiastic about improving care and developing innovative care models. Jo has been an active participant in research projects with the University of Tasmania, Dementia Australia, Calvary Health Care, Swinburne University and the University of Canberra.

Cathryn Kerr

Executive Manager Estate Development State Office

Cathryn has 27 years experience in the architectural industry. She has a demonstrated history of effective leadership, managing multi-disciplinary architectural teams and project consultants to successful outcomes. Cathryn holds a degree with a major in architecture and minor in city and regional planning, and a PhD in urban design. She believes the built environment significantly influences a person’s quality of life, that it has physiological impact, can determine comfort, and will contribute to wellbeing. Her greatest enjoyment is delivering a space or a place that makes a positive difference to the quality of life and wellbeing of people.

Mel Szczypka

Executive Manager Home & Community Services

Mel possesses extensive experience working with some of Australia's leading not-for-profit organisations. Mel has previously held senior positions specialising in community services with a strong focus on industry innovation and development in the aged and disability sectors. In these capacities, Mel has developed exceptional management skills and experience with a strong social justice framework.
Mel is deeply passionate in providing a robust foundation of supports and services to promote senior Tasmanians in living an independent and fulfilling life in the place they call home.

Lee-Ann Patterson

Executive Manager Retirement Living

“Working in community leadership roles for over 30 years, Lee-Ann’s focus has been on delivering purposeful outcomes for people in the community. Through her roles in Federal and Local Government, Boards of Governance and place-based services, Lee-Ann has been able to provide leadership, mentoring, initiative learning and direct resources that support community growth.

Since joining Southern Cross Care in 2018, Lee-Ann has managed the organisation's Retirement Living Lifestyle Villages in Northern Tasmania. Overseeing an extensive development of Glenara Lakes, Lee-Ann and her team were recognised nationally as the “Most Commendable Village Manager” for LASA (Leading Aged Services Australia).

Lee-Ann’s goal in building a thriving community in retirement living by working with her team to engage our residents in a safe, socially inclusive environment and by creating a meaningful lifestyle for those who live within the village family of Southern Cross Care.”
