Situated in the leafy bayside suburb of Sandy Bay is this 60 bed ageing in place facility which has won several national awards for excellence in care as well as architectural design. This premier location is a short walk to a thriving shopping centre with a variety of restaurants and the beach. This facility boasts luxury fittings throughout with a 15 metre heated salt water hydrotherapy pool and spa for the residents to enjoy. Elegant and sophisticated furnishings and fittings complement the ambience of the spacious living and dining areas. Individual rooms are generously proportioned with a state of the art ensuite bathroom. There are several comfortable sitting rooms with tea and coffee making facilities which are suitable for individual activities as well as family gatherings. The easy access gardens with convenient garden seats are also a favourite place for many of the residents. A well stocked mobile shopping trolley ensures those who find access to nearby shops difficult are able to avail themselves of purchasing items of choice. As you would expect there is a wide range of activities from which to choose varying from gentle exercise activities to craft and book discussion groups in the well stocked library. A close partnership has been formed with a nearby school which results in meaning activities and friendships between both residents and students. The serene Chapel with its magnificent stained glass windows is a place of reflection and veneration for regular services of all denominations. There are close links between the Independent Living Unit residents and the Residential Care Facility and a community center for the use of all residents is located at the Sandy Bay Road end of the complex. The main building is fully air-conditioned by geothermal energy. The heat source is the return wastewater from Selfs Point waste treatment plant. It is thought to be the first residential facility in the world using return wastewater as its geothermal source. In 1999 Sandown Village won all 4 of the Tasmanian Building Industry Awards for which it was eligible. These awards are made annually by the Master Builders Association of Tasmania as a recognition of excellence. It was the first time that one project has won 4 of the major awards in one year. In addition, the complex was awarded the Minister's Award for Excellence as the best low care facility in Australia. |
