Meet Sharon Earnshaw

Welcome back to our Meet the Team articles. Helping you get to know the wonderful staff at Southern Cross Care Tasmania.

Above from left – Sharon Earnshaw and Alana Hughes sit on “Santa’s Throne” in the Christmas Room that they build each year.

Sharon is much more than a cleaner and laundry attendant. The dedication she has to her work, and to improving the lives of each resident living at Mount Esk, is phenomenal.

Since coming to work with Southern Cross Care in 2016, Sharon has become well known and trusted by all the residents at Mount Esk. Always looking for new ways to bring a smile to the faces of those she works with, Sharon is a master at completing her regular tasks quickly so that she can find time for “lots of little extras”.

As just one example, Sharon loves to play music to the residents, even maintaining a playlist of their favourite songs so she can share them via her Bluetooth speaker when she does her rounds; a gesture she says they really appreciate.

Sharon plays the cornet and trumpet in a band, and brings the band in to play at Christmas and for Mount Esk’s Anzac Day service.

She is also one of the team members who put together “The Christmas Room” each year!

Sharon’s advice to anyone wanting to work in aged care is to ‘go for it … it is very rewarding.’
