Meet Jill Breaden

Welcome back to our Meet the Team articles. Helping you get to know the wonderful staff at Southern Cross Care Tasmania.

Guide Dog-to-be, Zazu, joins us in a sunny corner of the Devonport Home and Community Services office when we sit down with Jill Breaden (Support Coordinator).

Zazu has been with Alison Wild (Team Leader, Home and Community Services North West) for six months, while he waits patiently to head off to Guide Dog training. During these months, he has been an extended team member of the Devonport office.

Jill began working at Southern Cross Care 14 years ago. She was re-entering the workforce after staying home to look after her two children until they went to school. Jill felt a career in aged care would work well around her family commitments, and due to her retail history.

‘I always got on well with everyone over 60… so that was a natural progression into doing my Certificate III in Aged Care.’

Throughout her time at Southern Cross Care, Jill has worked as a Support Worker, run a Diversional Therapy Program, ran the CHSP pilot program, and worked in an administration role. She is now the Support Coordinator in the Devonport Home and Community Care office. Jill says that her career has been incredibly rewarding.

‘It’s really satisfying being able to deliver something or set up something that’s really going to help clients to stay at home where they need to be for as long as they can be.’

Jill’s words of advice for anyone going into the field; ‘just enjoy your clients, because the stories they can tell and things they’ve done in their lives… you learn a lot about what’s important in life and what you should be grateful for.’

Above – Zazu was most displeased with the Devonport Home and Community Services office team who took him for a bath during a lunch break.
