Yaraandoo turns 30
On Thursday, December 3, Yaraandoo celebrated its 30th anniversary.
In 1988, 1.84 hectares of Crown land in Somerset was purchased by Southern Cross Homes Tasmania, with the vision of developing a new type of aged care service on the North West Coast. In 1990, construction of the 60-bed Yaraandoo Hostel commenced and on December 3, 1990, the completed building was handed over. In mid-December Yaraandoo’s first resident, Bessie Hyland, moved in.
The milestone year was celebrated with cupcakes and a card signed by staff and residents on the day. We would like to take a moment to thank the residents, staff, volunteers and wider community who have made Yaraandoo what it is today. Southern Cross Care (Tas) Inc. look forward to providing care services to Tasmanians on the North West Coast for many more years to come.
